Body Lift Surgery
If you have lost a significant amount of weight or experience extreme weight loss you will probably find that you have a lot of excess skin and one of the best ways of removing it is to undergo what is called Body Lift Surgery
Body lift surgeryIf you have lost a lot of self confidence after shedding significant amounts of weight you may be desperate to finally get that body you dreamed of. Often you can be left with large amounts of skin that will not return to 'normal' after being stretched by your fat and a body lift is designed to trim it off to get you looking your best.
Body lift surgery shouldn't be taken lightly, however, as it is an invasive plastic surgery procedure and there are things you need to know before making your mind up to undergo a body lift.
A body lift can involve the entire body and you will have areas such as your stomach, thighs, buttocks, back and even neck and chin operated on and that means your plastic surgery could go on for upwards of seven hours or more depending on the severeity or complexity of your individual case. A good plastic surgeon will be able to advice you on this during your consultation.
During the body lift surgery incisions will be made wherever excess skin needs to be removed and a good plastic surgeon will make sure these sites are chosen carefully so they can be easily hidden by clothing or natural creases. Generally those scars almost disappear within 18 months anyway although you will probably wear compression garments to aid this process, certainly in the early weeks of recovery from your body lift.
Body Lift Risks:
After the body lift surgery you will be kept in hospital for up to four days to be monitored for blood loss and other complications from the general anaesthetic. Afterwards you will need to be driven home and nursed for at least a week to ensure you keep your wounds clean and to avoid seroma, where fluid builds up under the skin after surgery. If this does happen you should contact you plastic surgeon, who will operate to 'let' the wound.
As a body lift is an invasive procedure, as we have said, and that multiple incisions may be made you should spend time carefully considering the benefits and risks before making your mind up and a good plastic surgeon will be able to help...
